Christina Lazaridi

Christina Lazaridi (born 1970 in Thessaloniki , Greece ) is a Greek- American screenwriter and university lecturer. Her short film, One Day Crossing , created together with Joan Stein , was nominated at the 2001 Academy Awards in the category of Best Short Film (Live Action) .

Life

Lazaridi was born in Greece and grew up there. Her mother, Ioanna Manoledaki, worked as a stage and costume designer for theater and opera. Lazaridi's brother, George-Emmanuel Lazaridis, is a composer. She studied Comparative Literature and Creative Writing at Princeton University . Her tutors included Paul Muldoon and James Richardson. She did her bachelor's degree in 1992. The following year she began studying screenwriting at Columbia University . In 1998 she did her MFA there .

Together with Joan Stein she wrote the screenplay for One Day Crossing , a short film about the fate of a Jewish woman in Hungary during the Second World War .

She now teaches at various universities, including a. Screenwriting at the Mediterranean Film Institute in Athens and creative writing at Princeton University. She has also written books on the topics she teaches. In 2010 she co-founded Cine qua non lab in Mexico, an organization that aims to support independent filmmakers.

She is married and has a daughter.
