Christine Juliane Westermann (born December 2, 1948 in Erfurt ) is a German television and radio presenter , journalist and author .

Radio and television career

Westermann grew up in Mannheim . Her parents were divorced, she was with her father during the day and with her mother in the evening. She was 14 years old when her father died. She has two sisters from different fathers. After graduating from high school , she did an internship at Mannheimer Morgen and attended the German School of Journalism in Munich . From 1972 on she worked as a freelance journalist for various radio and television stations, including RIAS 2 , produced films and reports and presented Die Drehscheibe on ZDF . In 1983 she switched to WDR and moderated the current hour until 2002 , from 1987 on together with Frank Plasberg .

From 1996 to 2016 Westermann hosted the program Zimmer frei! Together with Götz Alsmann . , in which a prominent “ flat share guest” was confronted with unusual tasks and games. Westermann and Alsmann described the format as a “children's birthday party for celebrities”. For working on rooms free! the presenter duo was awarded the Adolf Grimme Prize in 2000. Westermann also works as a presenter for the radio station WDR 2 , where she alternates with colleagues on Sundays and presents the book tip and until the end of 2014 the Montalk . In 2010 she was awarded the German Radio Prize in the Best Interview category. The last broadcast, rooms available! aired on September 25, 2016.

From October 2, 2015 to December 6, 2019, she was a participant in the new edition of the Literary Quartet on ZDF alongside Thea Dorn and Volker Weidermann .

Book author

In 1999 Christine Westermann published her first book Baby, when do you marry me? , followed a year later I think he broke up . In 2008 the book Auffrage zum Tanz , written together with Jörg Thadeusz , was published , an exchange of letters between two journalists. A book followed in 2009 with stories and photos about the Cologne Carnival , 2013 There is still something going on about getting older.

Private life

Between 1990 and 2000 Westermann had a second residence in San Francisco , where she worked as a freelance correspondent ; During this time she was constantly commuting between the USA and her Cologne workplace. Westermann has been married to the management consultant Jochen Baller, who is also her agent, since 2001. The two live in Cologne.
