History and architecture

After the settlement of industrial areas and the construction of railway systems, the formerly small town expanded and a new church was necessary.

The building was built from 1952 to 1953 according to plans by Karl Brochhausen on a hill opposite the train station; it has a striking urban effect. The plastered wall surfaces are kept light, the roofs are slated. The church consists of the rectangular nave , the rectangular altar house, the sacristy and the tower . The walls of the ship are by arched windows broken, it is with a gable roof covered. A rose window is let into the gable wall above the portal . The tower stands on a square floor plan, it is crowned with a tent roof. In the interior, segmental arch-like vaults rest on lateral pillars. The slightly higher choir has a similar vault. The end wall is straight and adorned with a picture of Christ, partly executed in mosaic . It was made in 1959 by Sister Erentrud Rost. Sr Erentrud OSB was a Benedictine woman from Varensell Abbey. The rose window shows a representation of Mary, it is a work by Richard Sehrbrock. The building is also used for various concerts.
