The Christian Spalating High School is a state-recognized substitute school in the East Thuringian Skat and residence town of Altenburg , sponsored by the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . It is named after Georg Spalatin .

location

The school building, built in Art Nouveau style in 1912 , is located in the Kauerndorf district at Schulstrasse 7, not far from the train station .

history

The building is a listed building, compare the list of cultural monuments in Altenburg . From 1913 to 1925, the Ernst Adelheid School existed as a forerunner . More information on the history of the building can be found on the school's website.

The grammar school was named after Georg Spalatin, a friend of Luther and a reformer in Altenburg.

The institution was founded in 2001 with one class, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia took over the sponsorship. In the building there was also a primary and a regular school called the North School. The latter was closed in 2004, the elementary school in 2006, so that the high school can now use the entire building. At the time of National Socialism the school was called Hans Schemm and during the GDR era it was called Ernst Thälmann . The grammar school has been cooperating with the Lindenau Museum since 2004 . In 2005 the renovated auditorium and gymnasium were handed over. Further renovation work was completed in 2007. The student café opened in 2008. A sports field was built from 2009 to 2010 on the adjacent site of the former Bella shoe factory.

School newspaper

The Spalatin Gymnasium is the only school in the Altenburger Land that has a school newspaper editorial office. The Preacher appears twice a year and offers young editors a platform.

In addition to current events, internal school matters and reports, there were also top-class interlocutors, such as the mayor of Altenburg: André Neumann (issue 23) or the musical star Angelika Milster (issue 21).
