Christoph Groneck

Christoph Groneck (born July 1, 1976 in Dinslaken ) is a German traffic planner and author with a focus on the renaissance of the tram .

Life

Groneck attended the Leibniz Gymnasium in Dormagen , where he graduated from high school on June 7, 1995 . Before his studies, he completed a three-month internship in the construction industry at Adolf Rohde GmbH in Dormagen. He then studied civil engineering with a specialization in "Transport Planning and Transport Systems " at the Bergische University in Wuppertal , where he graduated on February 5, 2001. The topic of the diploma thesis was the construction of a new tram line in Bochum to the Ruhr-Park .

During his studies, Groneck worked from 1995 to 2001 as a student assistant in the engineering office Vössing in Cologne and Düsseldorf and from 1997 also as a student assistant at the BUGH Wuppertal at the chair of "Public Traffic and Transport Systems - Local Traffic in Europe" at C. Hass-Klau. In addition, he was a city guide from 2000 to 2003 as part of the “Expansion of suspension railway” visitor program of the Wuppertal press office and Wuppertaler Stadtwerke AG .

Shortly after completing his studies, Groneck was a research assistant at the chair of “Environmentally Compatible Infrastructure Planning and Urban Planning” at the Bergische Universität. During this time he was also employed in a temporary job at the district of Mettmann to manage a passenger survey. Since 2003 Groneck has been working as a traffic planner for the Rhein-Sieg district .

In November Groneck received his doctorate on the subject of "French planning models for tram systems in comparison to Germany". In August 2013 he worked as a scientific advisor on a project study regarding the reintroduction of the tram in Bremerhaven .

Groneck is also often active as a speaker at events. There he speaks frequently on his main topic “The Renaissance of the Tram in France”.

Publications

Since 2001, Groneck has been working as a freelance journalist for various specialist journals on the subject of traffic (e.g. "Stadtverkehr", "StraßenbahnMagazin" and "Regionalverkehr"). Since 1997 he has been working as an editor at the "Nachrichtenblatt - Information on Transport Policy in the Rhineland", of which he has been editor-in-chief since 2000. Groneck is also the author of the following specialist books:
