Christoph Sander (diplomat)
Christoph Sander (born November 28, 1953 in Düsseldorf ) is a German diplomat who was ambassador to Togo from 2015 to 2019 .
Life
After graduating from high school in 1973 in Düsseldorf and doing civilian service in 1975, Sander began studying law , which he completed with the first state examination in law. After completing his legal clerkship , he passed the second state examination in 1983.
In 1983, Sander began the preparatory service for the higher foreign service and after graduating from 1985 to 1986 initially worked at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and between 1986 and 1989 at the embassy in India . After a renewed assignment in the Foreign Office from 1989 to 1992, he worked at the Consulate General in Chicago between 1992 and 1996 , before he was again at the headquarters of the Foreign Office from 1996 to 1999. This was followed by a job at the embassy in Hungary between 1999 and 2003 and at the embassy in Pakistan from 2003 to 2006 .
After returning to Germany, Sander was Head of Division in the Foreign Office from 2006 to 2009 and then from 2009 to 2012 at the Embassy in Venezuela , before he was Consul General in Atlanta between 2012 and 2015 .
In 2015, Sander succeeded Volker Berresheim as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Togo . On August 12, 2015 he was received by the President of the Togolese Republic , Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé , to present his credentials. In 2019 he was replaced in this post by Matthias Veltin .
