Christoph Ulf

Christoph Ulf (born January 5, 1949 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian ancient historian .

Christoph Ulf studied history, German philology, art history and philosophy at the University of Innsbruck . In 1975 he passed his teaching examination in German and history. He then taught from 1975 to 1978 in the school service. In 1978 Ulf received his doctorate in Ancient History on the subject of the Luperkalia Rite from the perspective of comparative history . This was followed by assistant positions at the University of Graz (1978–1983) and at the University of Innsbruck (1983). In 1988 he completed his habilitation in ancient history at the University of Innsbruck on the subject of The Homeric Society and became an associate professor there in the same year. In 1989/90 and 1996 Ulf was visiting professor at the University of Graz. In 1998 he turned down an offer from the University of Klagenfurt . From 2002 to 2014 he was a full professor of ancient history at the University of Innsbruck.

His main research interests include the social history of archaic Greece, ancient sports and society, and gender studies .
