Christy Moore
Christy Moore (born May 7, 1945 in Newbridge , County Kildare ) is an Irish singer, musician and songwriter.
Musical development
Christy Moore was born in Newbridge, west of Dublin , in 1945. With his school friend Dónal Lunny he founded the band Rakes of Kildare. He did a bank apprenticeship and finally went to England in 1966, where he made his way in the London pub and music scene and met numerous Irish musicians. In 1969 he released his first solo record, Paddy on the Road , and in 1971 he returned to Ireland. He met the singer John Reilly and learned numerous songs from him. Moore recorded the album Prosperous . With some musicians who were involved in this album, including Lunny and Andy Irvine , he founded the band Planxty , one of the most successful Irish folk formations of the 1970s. This dissolved in 1975 in favor of solo projects, only to appear again briefly from 1979 and around 2004.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Christy Moore recorded a large number of records. In addition to Moore, well-known musicians from the Irish folk scene such as Andy Irvine, Dónal Lunny, Jimmy Faulkner and Liam Óg O'Flynn were responsible for the successes and highlights . In addition to his own projects, Moore was repeatedly on tour and in the studio with other bands, especially Planxty, which he co-founded, and, in the early 1980s, the rockier Moving Hearts .
In the 1990s and early 2000s it was quite quiet around him at times, mainly for health reasons. Nevertheless, new albums continued to emerge.
Christy Moore's brother, Barry Moore, is also a singer and goes by the name Luka Bloom .
