The Chronica sive Historia de duabus civitatibus , also known as the history of the two kingdoms or the world chronicle of Otto von Freising , is one of the most important historical works of the German Middle Ages .

The Latin work of Bishop Otto von Freising was written between 1143 and 1146. The first printed version appeared in 1515 . It belongs to the type of medieval world chronicles and describes in seven books the entire history of mankind from the creation of the world to the present of the author and in the eighth a vision of the Last Judgment . The author from the Babenberg family , a relative and partisan of the later Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa , saw the Roman-German Empire in the tradition of the ancient empires of the Babylonians , Persians , Greeks or Macedonians and Romans and assigned it an important role in the divine plan of salvation ( Historia salutis ) too.

Otto von St. Blasien wrote a continuation with his Chronicle of St. Blasien .
