City to City is the 1978 studio album by Scottish singer and songwriter Gerry Rafferty . It was the artist's second solo album after the 1971 production Can I Have my Money Back . The album and the single hit Baker Street included made Rafferty financially independent.
Emergence
After his departure from Stealers Wheel in March 1975, Rafferty moved to Clydebank , Scotland , to work on new compositions . His lawyers tried until 1977 to enable Rafferty to produce a new album. Rafferty was able to win several top-class studio musicians for the recordings in 1977 in addition to the Stealers Wheel bassist Gerry Taylor with Andy Fairweather Low on guitar, Henry Spinetti on drums and Paul Jones on harmonica.

Doug Stone, who reviewed the album for Allmusic , highlights Rafferty's shift in paraphrasing and his ability to compose dense. Stone rates the album with four and a half stars out of five.
Publication and Success
The album stayed in the British album charts for a total of 37 weeks between February 1978 and October 1979 and reached number 6. The British phono association BPI certified a gold record in May 1978 . The album reached the top of the charts on the American Billboard 200 and was awarded a gold record by the American phono association RIAA in May 1978 and a platinum record in July 1978. In Germany the album reached number 3 on the MediacontrolCharts. In addition to Baker Street , Right Down the Line and Home and Dry were also released as singles.
