Claes Robert Herman Vidarsson Egnell (born January 29, 1916 in Örebro , † January 15, 2012 in Falun ) was a Swedish modern pentathlon and marksman . He was a participant in Winter and Summer Olympics.

Life

For the first time Claes Egnell participated in Olympic Games in 1948 in St. Moritz in part. He was one of four Swedish participants - one of them the future Olympic champion in modern pentathlon , William Grut - in the demonstration competition Winter Pentathlon and the only one of the four who could not finish the competition after a broken leg as a result of an accident in downhill skiing . Until then it had been in fourth place. In the same year he started at the Summer Olympics in London in the rapid-fire pistol competition and reached 24th place there. At the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki he competed in the modern pentathlon . In the individual, he finished eleventh, together with Torsten Lindqvist and the Olympic champion in the individual, Lars Hall , he was able to win the silver medal in the team competition.

Egnells hometown club was I3 Idrottsförening, Örebro . The daily Nerikes Allehanda had awarded him the gold medal for the most famous personality of the sport in the province of Örebro as early as 1939 . In 1945 he was awarded the prestigious Svenska Dagbladet gold medal . The jury's reasoning was as follows

För två SM vunna efter hård kamp för att comma i kapp efter svår skada. "

"For two Swedish championships after a tough battle to return after a serious injury."

He was connected to the modern pentathlon until the end, including being a guest of honor at the World Cup final in the modern pentathlon 2005 in Uppsala . He lived in Falun until his death .
