Claire Morel

Claire Morel (born February 14, 1984 in Senlis ) is a French soccer player .

Club career

Claire Morel began playing club football at an amateur club near her birthplace, CS Avilly Saint-Léonard . At the age of twelve she joined the USCCO Compiègne , where she played for the next six years. There the attacker also became a youth national player (see below) and, as a teenager, also made her first appearances in the league eleven, which competed in France's second division. Because of her talent, she was accepted into the youth performance center of the French football association in 2002 and was part of the squad of its first division women's club CNFE Clairefontaine .

Twelve months later she signed FC Lyon , with which Claire Morel was runner-up in her first season there . The goal-scoring striker had made a significant contribution to this good position with 18 goals in the game and thus also won the top scorer's crown in Division 1. After the end of this season, the women's football department of FC joined larger local rivals Olympique , and Morel went with them.
Olympique Lyon finished the following two years as third in the table. Even in the state cup competition , which was only introduced in 2001 , it was not enough to win a title. In the 2004/05 draw , Claire Morel and her teammates were in the final, but had to admit defeat to Juvisy FCF , albeit only after the penalty shoot-out. Already in Lyon she was increasingly used by coach Farid Benstiti as a "hanging tip" coming from midfield behind the striker Sandrine Brétigny .

From 2006 Morel wore the dress of Olympiques league rivals ASJ Soyaux . The best final placement she achieved with the Charente team was fourth (2007). In 2009 she finished football at the highest national level and took on the role of player-coach for the neighboring fourth division club ÉS Champniers . In 2012 she succeeded in winning the regional cup competition there, where she made the final 3-2 with a flawless hat trick in the final - against the women of ASJ Soyaux. In 2014, she also trained the B-girls from another neighboring amateur club.

In the national team

A few weeks after her 17th birthday, Claire Morel played her first game in the French A-girls selection against her Swiss contemporaries. With this team trained by Bruno Bini , she took part in the U-19 European Championship in 2002 . At this tournament, in which France lost 3-1 to Germany in the final, she scored four goals and was the top scorer together with Barbara Müller . She was also part of the French squad at the U-19 World Cup a little later that year . There she was eliminated after the preliminary round.

Morel has also played three full international matches for France , all in the first half of 2004 - against the USA , Denmark and Iceland  - and only came on as a substitute for coach Élisabeth Loisel in the last ten minutes. She did not score a goal in this circle. After that she was only considered in the U-21 women's team, for which she played seven times from November 2005 to February 2007 and scored one goal. Her former U-19 coach Bruno Bini, who replaced Loisel at the top of the senior national team at the time, did not bring Claire Morel back to the Bleues either .
