Clarence Dunn Van Duzer (born May 4, 1864 in Idaho City , Idaho , † September 28, 1947 in Passaic , New Jersey ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1907 he represented the state of Nevada in the US House of Representatives .

Early years and advancement

Clarence Van Duzer attended both public and private schools in Nevada and California . He then studied at the University of California at Berkeley and until 1889 at the University of Nevada at Reno . After a subsequent law degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC , he was admitted to the bar in 1893.

Between 1892 and 1897 Van Duzer worked in Washington for the state of Nevada as a state land agent . He was also the private secretary of the future US Senator and Congressman Francis G. Newlands for five years . In 1898 he became a district attorney in Humboldt County , Nevada. At that time he also got into the mining business.

Political career

Van Duzer became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1900 and 1902 he was a member of the Nevada Assembly and its president. After the congressional elections in 1902 he moved into the US House of Representatives for his party, where he replaced Francis Newlands, who was moving to the Senate, on March 4, 1903. After re-election in 1904, Van Duzer was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until March 3, 1907. In 1906 he did not run for any further term.

Another résumé

After his time in the federal capital, Clarence Van Duzer turned back to his business interests, especially mining in Nevada. In 1922 he moved to Passaic, New Jersey. There he was involved in the newspaper business and there he died on September 28, 1947.
