Claudia Amengual Puceiro (born January 7, 1969 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan writer , lecturer and translator .

Life

Amengual initially worked as a teacher and later as an English-Spanish translator. She studied literature at the Universidad de la República in Montevideo and graduated with a licentiate . From 2003 studies in Spain at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Santander followed . She has been teaching literary translation since 2010.

As a writer, she has been active since 1997 with short stories and small articles in magazines and has also been able to publish in anthologies abroad. Her debut novel La rosa de Jericó ( The Rose of Jericho ) was published in 2000. Her novel Desde las cenizas ( From the Ashes ) was awarded the 2006 Prize for Literature Premio Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz .

In 2007 she took part in the International Literature Festival Berlin , in the same year she became a member of the international literary group Bogotá 39 .

In 2012, Rara avis ( rare bird ) appeared, a biography about the Uruguayan poet Susana Soca (1906-1959), who was in literary competition with the writer Victoria Ocampo at the time. The novel Cartagena , a tribute to Gabriel García Márquez , was selected as a finalist for the 2014 Premio Herralde de Novela (Herralde Novel Prize).
