Claudia Mahnke

Claudia Mahnke (born around 1967 in Meerane ) is a German opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Claudia Mahnke comes from Meerane, her mother was a kindergarten teacher and her father was a training instructor for welders . Already during her school days she had singing lessons and after graduating from high school she began studying at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . In 1991 she made her debut as an opera singer during her studies. From 1992–1995 she was engaged at the Chemnitz City Theaters , where she initially sang smaller mezzo-soprano roles (including Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte , Chava in Anatevka ). In 1994 Claudia Mahnke was the winner of the national singing competition in Berlin in the category “Opera / Operetta / Concert”. From 1996 she was a permanent member of the Stuttgart State Opera , among the highlights was the title role in Karl Amadeus Hartmann's opera Simplicius Simplicissimus , which earned her several nominations for “Singer of the Year” in the specialist magazine Opernwelt . During this time their son was born. In August 2006, the Stuttgart State Opera awarded her the title of chamber singer . In autumn 2006 she moved to the ensemble of the Frankfurt Opera . In addition to her permanent engagements, Claudia Mahnke has made guest appearances around the world, including at the Komische Oper Berlin , the San Francisco Opera , the Opéra National de Lyon and with the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in Seoul . In summer 2013, she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival as Fricka ( Das Rheingold , Die Walküre ), Waltraute ( Die Walküre ), Waltraute ( Götterdämmerung ) and 2nd Norn ( Götterdämmerung ).

On August 1, 2019 summer concert series was Mahnke within BBC Proms together with Stuart Skelton , a stint in the Royal Albert Hall in London with Mahler's song cycle Das Lied von der Erde .

Claudia Mahnke lives in Frankfurt am Main .
