Claudia Neumann (* 1964 in Düren ) is a German sports reporter .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1984 and a stay abroad, Neumann studied German studies, education and sport in Bonn from 1986 to 1992 . Since 1999 she has been working as an editor and reporter in ZDF's main editorial team, Sport, before that she was with SAT.1 and RTL . In 2011 she became the first World Cup commentator on German television at the women's soccer World Cup in Germany .

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , Neumann was the first woman to be used for the German live commentary of a men's tournament. She commented on the encounters Wales - Slovakia on June 11 and Italy - Sweden on June 17, 2016 for ZDF . Neumann thus triggered sexist comments, particularly on social media , which sparked a far-reaching debate.

In August 2016 Neumann commented on some competitions in the Summer Olympics , including football, table tennis, beach volleyball and badminton, and in June and July 2017 on several games at the Confederations Cup . In addition, she was the first woman to comment on a Champions League encounter for ZDF . She accompanied the game Real Madrid against Paris Saint-Germain on February 14, 2018. Neumann was a commentator for ZDF several times at the 2018 World Cup .

In 2020, her book Has she ever got permission to be outside the kitchen? How I learned to take life sportily by addressing agitation in social networks and her own life as a sports journalist in a male domain.
