Clavis Historicorum Antiquitatis Posterioris

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clavis Historicorum Antiquitatis Posterioris (abbreviation CHAP ) is an English-language online database of the works of late antique historians, which is located at the University of Ghent . Peter Van Nuffelen and Lieve Van Hoof are the editors . The project was funded by the European Research Council , the Research Foundation - Flanders and the Ghent University Research Fund . It is free to use.

The period mainly dealt with extends from approx. 300 to approx. 800 AD and thus follows the research approach of a "long late antiquity"; however, some early medieval and later works are also taken into account. Historical works are recorded in Greek, Latin, Syrian, Armenian, Georgian, Arabic and Coptic languages, as well as Hebrew, Aramaic and Persian works. Authors (if known) and their work (s) are briefly described: title, type of historical work, language, the period covered, state of preservation and brief comments on the content. In some cases, there is also information on the author's sources and later users. Editions, translations (if any) and a selection of modern research literature are also given. The search is sorted by authors and works.

The database allows a very comfortable search for all known late antique historical works. The research results were also published in book form:
