Cliff Martinez (* 5. February 1954 in the Bronx , New York ) is an American composer of film music .

Life

Martinez has worked as a composer for film and television productions since the late 1980s. He is also active as a studio drummer . After drumming with Lydia Lunch , the Dickies , the Weirdos, Roid Rogers and Captain Beefheart , he was a member of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers as a drummer from 1984 to 1985 . Martinez made a name for himself in particular as the composer preferred by Steven Soderbergh for his films. The atmosphere of films like Traffic - Macht des Kartell or Solaris essentially bears his signature. In addition to electronically shaped surface sounds, his pieces often have percussive style elements.
