Collision venue in Korea

Collision in Korea (평화 를 위한 평양 국제 체육 및 문화 축전), or Collision in Korea , was a two-day wrestling event that took place from April 28 to 29, 1995 in the capital of North Korea , Pyongyang . The event was actually called the Pyongyang International Sports and Culture Festival for Peace , but was renamed by the WCW for US broadcast. The venue was the May Day Stadium , which is located in the Chung-guyŏk district on the island of Rungna .

It was hosted by the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and the New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). In the United States, the event was broadcast on 4 August 1995, when WCW eight of the 15 matches as part of a pay-per-views as Collision in Korea aired.

To date, it is the largest wrestling event in the world with around 320,000 to 340,000 visitors (the official numbers vary) over two days. The previous attendance record was 78,000 at Wrestlemania III . Wrestlers from WCW and NJPW took part in the event. Boxer Muhammad Ali appeared as a special guest . The main battle was between Antonio Inoki , head of NJPW, and WCW's superstar Ric Flair . In 2016 at WrestleMania 32 the attendance was even 101,763.

More than 10,000 foreign guests were allowed to visit the capital of North Korea under the strictest security precautions. This was the country’s first border opening to visitors after the Korean War and was made possible by the death of dictator Kim Il-sung .
