The Comisión Receptora e Investigadora de Denuncias de Objetos Voladores No Identificados ( CRIDOVNI , in German Commission for the receipt and investigation of reports on unidentified flying objects ) is the state commission of inquiry into UFOs of the Air Force of Uruguay ( Fuerza Aérea Uruguaya ).
background
CRIDOVNI was founded on August 7, 1979. The reason was numerous reports of UFO sightings from all over Uruguay in the previous years. The CRIDOVNI should support the civil and military authorities in investigating and clearing up the cases. CRIDOVNI works with private organizations from the UFO research environment. The tasks of CRIDOVNI are to collect, review, analyze, classify and catalog all reports on UFO sightings in the airspace of Uruguay. The promotion of national and international research on the phenomenon, as well as the clarification of what caused the sighting. Also taking into account the possibility of fraud, optical illusions or psychological causes.
state of research
The head of CRIDOVNI, Ariel Sanchez, summarized the results so far in an interview in February 2012:
- Around 2,200 UFO incidents have been reported to CRIDOVNI since work began. About half could be clarified without analysis or an analysis was not possible due to a lack of data. The remaining cases were analyzed and for the most part could be assigned to a conventional explanation.
- 40 cases could not be cleared up and are classified as real UFO cases. According to Sanchez, there is no explanation for this according to “our knowledge of air and space”.
- The origin or nature of the UFO phenomenon is unknown.
- It is a global phenomenon.
- Greater cooperation between various states and institutions is desirable in order to be able to better research the phenomenon.
