The Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys (CSMB) is a state school authority in the Canadian province of Québec . She is responsible for the organization of French-language school teaching in the west of the administrative region of Montreal . It is named after Marguerite Bourgeoys , who founded the first school in Montreal in 1658 .

On July 1, 1998, as part of the secular school reform in Québec, the CSMB was founded. With this reform, the previously denominationally separate school authorities were dissolved and replaced by new ones, which are defined according to linguistic and geographical criteria.

The CSMB operates 61 primary schools, 12 secondary schools, two special schools, six vocational schools and four facilities for adult education. 7,500 employees (including 3,800 teachers) look after around 49,000 students, 39,400 of them in the compulsory levels. 23 school councils, elected by the residents of the supervised area, oversee the school board, with nine councils having executive functions.
