Complete review

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The complete review is an English-language literary website that was launched in March 1999. She is mainly known for aggregating citations from and hyperlinks to book reviews , supplemented by a dedicated review of each work. In addition, it has been offering the Literary Saloon blog since August 2002 and the complete review Quarterly , an electronic literary magazine founded in February 2000 , in which hardly any new material has appeared since 2008. Although the site is privately owned and operated by an individual, it now (as of 2012) offers reviews of over 2,800 books and, according to its own information, receives several hundred review copies per year. It was named one of the "Best Literary Places on the Web" by the New York Times in 2004 and one of the "50 Coolest Websites of the Year" by Time magazine in 2005 .

history

The complete review was founded in March 1999 by the native Austrian Michael A. Orthofer, who currently lives in New York City . His original idea was to create a website that, in addition to basic information on individual books, collects hyperlinks to as many reviews as possible on the web. Since detailed reviews could not be found for all books, he soon switched to adding his own reviews to the links. In order to give the site an institutional identity, Orthofer initially did not sign his contributions by name. It was only in April 2009 that he stated that around 95% of the previously published articles had come from him and went on to add his name to reviews and blog entries.

The complete review does not use a content management system , but adheres closely to its original, simple and hand-written layout. It is mainly financed by participating in the amazon.com affiliate program. As part of this, the site receives a commission for all purchases made through a link from the complete review.
