Conor Mullen Colonel (born February 15, 1980 in Omaha , Nebraska ) is an American musician.

Live and act

Conor Oberst started making music at the age of 13. According to his own account, he recorded his first song with a children's cassette recorder and an acoustic guitar. In the same year he founded the label Lumberjack Records, now known as Saddle Creek, with his brother Justin .

From 1995 to 1997 he played guitar and singer with Commander Venus . In 1996, Oberst also started with Magnetas and that year also became a member of Park Ave , where he was on drums . At 17 he was already a full-time musician.

In 1997 he released a split single for the first time (with Squadcar 96 ) under the name Bright Eyes . As a result, he released several albums, EPs and singles under this name - initially as a one-man project but soon also with a full orchestra or guest musicians such as country singer Emmylou Harris . In addition, Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott became permanent band members.

From 2001, Oberst was also the singer of the band Desaparecidos , which played emolastic indie rock and broke up in 2002. The band has been active again since 2012 and released a new album in 2015.

With the album I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning , Bright Eyes made it to number 10 on the American album charts in 2005 . In addition, the singles Lua and Take It Easy (Love Nothing) reached number one and two of the Hot 100 singles sales in the USA at the same time .

On August 1, 2008, Conor Oberst released a self-titled solo album. The recordings for this took place within a month in Tepoztlán , Mexico . As a backing band he was supported by the specially founded Mystic Valley Band , which also consists of musicians who have already participated in Bright Eyes publications. While the album only bore his name, which appeared in 2009 follow-up album is Outer South with Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley band titled. It also contains songs by the other band members.

Oberst is also one of four members of the "folk supergroup" Monsters of Folk . The other members are Jim James from My Morning Jacket , M. Ward and Mike Mogis , who was also a permanent member of Bright Eyes. The quartet released their debut album on September 22, 2009. At the beginning of 2011, The People's Key was released again after a break of almost four years, a Bright Eyes album.

On May 19, 2014 Conor Oberst released his sixth solo album entitled Upside Down Mountain on Nonesuch Records

Oberst had a role as an extra, as a reading customer, in Millie's Coffee Shop (1:04:16), in the film Shrink , in which Kevin Spacey played the lead role.

In 2018 he founded the duo Better Oblivion Community Center with Phoebe Bridgers , which released a debut album of the same name in 2019. For live performances, the backing band consists of as many men as women, with female bass guitar and drums ( Carla Azar from Autolux ), male keyboards and lead guitar ( Nick Zinner from Yeah Yeah Yeahs ).
