Conrad Gasser

Conrad Gasser (born September 19, 1912 in Chur ; † August 2, 1982 in Zurich ) was a Swiss pediatrician and hematologist .

Life

The son of Eduard and Lydia Gasser (née Ribetti) graduated from the medical school in Zurich in 1937 . He began his career as a pediatrician in 1941 as an assistant to Guido Fanconi , who ran the Children's Hospital in Zurich . He completed his habilitation with the thesis The Haemolytic Syndromes in Childhood . When Fanconi retired, it was linked to the withdrawal of his senior physician Gasser from this hospital, in accordance with the academic customs of the time and the country. Gasser opened a private practice and dedicated himself to the treatment of leukemia in children.

In 1955, Conrad Gasser was one of the first to describe the haemolytic uremic syndrome, which was also called Gasser syndrome after him .

Around 1981 he was appointed a corresponding member of the Finnish Pediatric Society and at the same time elected a Fellow of the International College of Pediatrics .
