The Coop newspaper is a weekly on Tuesdays appearing free newspaper of the Swiss major distributor Coop .

history

The Coop newspaper appeared for the first time in 1902, at that time as a cooperative folk newspaper . It is sent every week free of charge to all Coop members and all customers with the Supercard customer card. It is the highest circulation newspaper in Switzerland with a WEMF - certified (. PY 1'843'830) edition of 1'819'578 spread copies and a reach (. PY 2'569'000) of 2'587'000 readers ( WEMF Mach Basic 2018-II). The editor-in-chief is Silvan Grütter.

Largest competitor of Coopzeitung is the Migros magazine that appears on Mondays Wochenblatt of large manifold Migros may have, which is approximately equal to high bearing and readership. The NZZ calls the two newspapers the “silent giants” of the Swiss media landscape and says about their journalistic work: Obviously, the consumer segment is just as pleased with everyday and lifestyle topics that are suitable for the majority as they are with politically balanced background reports.

At the end of 2019, Coop terminated its membership of the Swiss Media Association .

Other language editions

The French-language edition is called Coopération . It achieved a WEMF-certified circulation of 623,441 (previous year 628,703) distributed copies and a reach of 690,000 (previous year 687,000) readers (WEMF MACH Basic 2018-II). The Italian-language edition is called Cooperazione . It achieved a WEMF-certified circulation of 125,214 (previous year 126,910) copies and a reach of 145,000 (previous year 144,000) readers (WEMF MACH Basic 2018-II). The total circulation of the Coop press is thus more than 2.5 million copies, and the reach almost 3.5 million readers.
