The Coquille River is a river in Coos County in the western US state of Oregon , which flows into the Pacific Ocean . The river bears the name of the Coquille Indian tribe who populated this region.
The Coquille River arises north of Myrtle Point at the confluence of the North Fork and South Fork Coquille Rivers . It flows over a distance of 58 km in a predominantly westerly direction past Coquille before it empties into the sea at Bandon . Near the estuary is the Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge and Bullards Beach State Park on its north bank . The Coquille River estuary measures 3 km². The river has a strong tidal current in its lower reaches . The State Route 42 or 42S roughly follows the river. US Highway 101 crosses the river not far from the mouth . The Coquille River drains an area of 2,743 km², of which 70 percent is forested. Its headwaters arise in the Oregon Coast Range . In the river system there are u. a. the following fish species and lampreys .
- Cutthroat Trout ( Oncorhynchus clarki )
- King salmon ( Oncorhynchus tshawytscha ), in spring
- Rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss )
- Silver salmon ( Oncorhynchus kisutch )
- Steelhead trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ), anadromous form in winter

Tributaries
The North Fork Coquille River is the right source river of the Coquille River. It flows over a distance of 85 km in a predominantly southerly direction. It drains an area of 748 km².
The East Fork Coquille River is a 55 km long left tributary of the North Fork Coquille River. Its catchment area covers 350 km².
The South Fork Coquille River forms the 101 km long left headwaters of the Coquille River. It drains an area of 1549 km².
The Middle Fork Coquille River is a 64 km long right tributary of the South Fork Coquille River that drains an area of 803 km².
