Cord Garben (born February 11, 1943 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) is a German pianist , conductor , producer and arranger .

Career

Cord Garben studied school music, piano and conducting at the State University of Music in Hanover. After completing his studies, he became a repetitor ( vocal coach ) at the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover for a short time . In 1972 he became a classic producer at Deutsche Grammophon and supervised, among others, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau , Herbert von Karajan , Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli , Mstislav Rostropovitch and, from 1984, all opera productions for which he received 7 Grammys. During this time he also recorded around 60 lied CDs, mostly for classic production osnabrück , including the first complete recording of all original lied and ballad compositions by Carl Loewe . This does not include the ballad fragments that are occasionally referred to as “missing” and actually completed by others, as well as “home cooking” that Loewe wrote for the Prussian King Wilhelm IV in Potsdam (also called “Hurray songs”). For the CD of the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in 1992 under Carlos Kleiber, he and the conductor did the post-production (Sony).

Cord Garben is President of the Johannes Brahms Society Hamburg and honorary member of the International Carl Loewe Society in Löbejün.
