Court Tomb by Mweelin
The destroyed Court Tomb of Mweelin ( Irish An Maoileann ) is east of Letterfrack , south of Pollcappul Lough (lake) in Connemara National Park (Irish Páirc Naisiúnta Chonamara ) in County Galway in Ireland .
The Court Tomb lies in the remains of a cairn up to 1.5 m high and about 18.0 × 16.0 m. Court Tombs are among the megalithic chamber tombs ( English chambered tombs ) of the British Isles . With around 400 specimens, they are found almost exclusively in Ulster in the north of Ireland or in Northern Ireland .
The south-west-north-east oriented Court Tomb is a megalithic complex and has an approximately 6.0 m long, 1.5 m wide, only partially preserved gallery with two chambers separated by side door stones. An entrance stone and stones of the courtyard are scattered around. A field wall touches the cairn and a path that leads to a sacred spring (Tobar Maoileann) and an old cemetery (penal burial ground) in the southeast crosses it.
