The Coverdale Bible (English Coverdale Bible ) is an English translation of the Bible , which was first published in 1535.

The Bible, published by Myles Coverdale , was the first to print a complete and modern English translation of the Bible.

William Tyndale , who had started in the 1520s with the translation of the Bible, was arrested in 1535 and on October 6, 1536 Vilvoorde ( Belgium were executed) before he could carry out his work to an end. With his Bible from the year 1535, Myles Coverdale completed the existing Bible texts translated by Tyndale into a complete translation. He also added missing books from the Old Testament and the Apocrypha .

Coverdale mainly translated from German and Latin sources. Historians tend, in part, to portray Coverdale and Tyndale as competitors in the race to translate the full English Bible, failing to mention that the two actually knew each other and that they occasionally worked together. As early as 1529 they translated the Pentateuch together in Hamburg . Coverdale's work was published on October 4, 1535, and it was printed abroad.

Parts of Coverdale's translation were incorporated into the Matthew Bible in 1537 .

Thomas Cromwell later employed Myles Coverdale to work on the Great Bible of 1539, the first officially authorized English translation of the Bible.
