Crystal Island ( Russian Хрустальный остров Khrustalny ostrow , German ' Lead Crystal Island ' ) is a planned, spiral-shaped building complex in the south of Moscow . With a height of 450 m and a usable area of ​​over 2,500,000 m² it would be one of the highest buildings in the world after the completion of the construction work and the second highest building in Europe after the Lakhta Center . The $ 4 billion project was designed by architects Foster + Partners .

It will contain a variety of different buildings such as museums , theaters and cinemas, as well as an international school with 500 students. In addition, space is to be created for 3000 hotel rooms, 900 apartments, offices and shops.

The electricity for the huge building will be generated in an environmentally friendly way by wind turbines and attached solar modules .
