Curt Siewert

Curt Siewert (born April 5, 1899 in the Oberförsterei Ratzeburg , Ortelsburg district ( East Prussia ), † June 13, 1983 in Hanover ) was a German officer , most recently major general in the Bundeswehr . He last worked as Lieutenant General in World War II .

Life

Siewert joined the 5th Grenadier Regiment in 1916 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1918. He served as an officer in World War I and joined the Reichswehr in 1919 . In the 1920s Siewert was employed as a platoon leader, intelligence officer and battalion adjutant, from 1930-1932 military district training and 1932/33 general staff training. Subsequently he was Ia op of the military district command III until September 1935. This was followed in 1935/36 as a company commander in the 50th Infantry Regiment and from 1936 as an Ia in the staff of the Commander-in-Chief of the Army (ObdH), where he saw the beginning of World War II . At the beginning of 1941 he was appointed Colonel Chief of the General Staff of the XXXVIII. Army Corps and was in command of the 58th Infantry Division from 1943 to 1945. In 1944 he was promoted to lieutenant general. Until 1948 a British prisoner of war, Siewert was taken over as major general (which corresponded to his last rank in the Wehrmacht) in the Bundeswehr in 1956 . Initially acting commanding general of the I. Corps in Münster until April 1957 , he was deputy commanding general of the III. Corps . Siewert was last employed as commander of the Military District Command II .
