Danial Hoydal
Dánial Hoydal (born June 14, 1976 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese writer and librettist of the first Faroese opera Í Óðamansgarði , which premiered on October 12, 2006 in Tórshavn.
Life
Dánial is the son of Gunnar Hoydal and Jette, née Dahl. The well-known politician Høgni Hoydal is his cousin, and the singer and actress Annika Hoydal is his aunt.
After graduating from high school, he worked as a kindergarten teacher and for the newspapers Sosialurin and Dimmalætting . He studied rhetoric and computer science at the University of Copenhagen .
Hoydal's literary role model is William Heinesen . He specializes in song lyrics and translations into the Faroese language . He wrote the Ólavsøka cantata in 2000 on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the Christianization of the Faroe Islands , in 2002 the Faroese translation of the musical Godspell , later a libretto for the composer Sunleif Rasmussen , in 2003 the translation of the Norwegian opera Eystein og Arnhild for Kristian Blak , and in 2004 the translation of the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat .
The collaboration with Sunleif Rasmussen resulted in the first Faroese opera with the title Í Óðamansgarði ("In the crazy garden") based on a story by William Heinesen ( Den gale mands have , 1960). The libretto is in Faroese, but an English translation is already available on the Internet. The world premiere will be accompanied by the international press. The opera will also be played abroad and will be released on DVD in 5 languages.
