Walter Niephaus , who was one of the best German chess players at the time, was involved in winning the second title .

The club currently has around 140 members, making it one of the largest German chess clubs. The best-known members of the association are Jan Timman and Ulf Andersson .

The first team of the Düsseldorfer SK played in the Bundesliga chess league in the 2018/19 season and was relegated in the end as 13th. In May 2019, the DSK won 3rd place in the German team blitz championship. In the 2019/20 season, the DSK will play in the 2nd Bundesliga (West) again.

Due to the restrictions caused by the corona pandemic, the DSK has set up a club presence at lichess.org and has taken part in the quarantine league. The best placement was 3rd place in the quarantine Bundesliga.
