Transport and launch vehicle for a DF-11

The CSS-7 is a mobile, land-based, short-range ballistic missile of the People's Republic of China . In the Chinese armed forces, the rocket is called DF-11 or Dongfeng 11 . The export designation is M-11 .

development

The CSS-7 was designed as a complement to the rocket artillery used in large numbers by the People's Liberation Army . A short-range ballistic missile system was also to be developed for the export market. Development of the CSS-7 by the Seventh Department of Mechanical Engineering, a predecessor organization of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), began in the late 1970s. The first test flight took place in 1990. The first rockets were handed over to the People's Liberation Army in 1992. The following variants were created:

  • DF-11: First production version introduced in 1992, range from 280 to 350 km.
  • DF-11A: Improved version introduced in 1998, with Beidou steering system, range over 500 km.
  • DF-A: Simplified version of the DF-11, payload of 500 kg, range of 280 km.
  • M-11: Export version of the DF-11 with a reduced payload of 500 kg, range of 280 km.
  • M-11A: Export version of the DF-11 with reduced range and payload.

technology

The DF-11 is a single-stage solid rocket. The rocket is housed on the all-terrain 8 × 8 WS2400 truck . The system is mobile and can be installed quickly. A minimum reaction time from the drive to the rocket launch of 15 to 30 minutes is achieved. Each vehicle is armed with a DF-11 missile. The DF-11 missiles can be equipped with a selection of different warheads:
