DHB Supercup
The DHB Supercup , officially called Pixum Super Cup , is a handball competition of the Handball Bundesliga (Liqui Moly HBL), which has been held annually for men since 1994 and for women for the first time in 2008 and since 2015.
The encounter takes place between the German champion and the winner of the DHB Cup . The venue for the men from 2005 to 2012 was the Munich Olympic Hall with two exceptions . In 2009 the game took place in the Olympic Hall in Nuremberg due to renovation work , and in 2012 the Olympic Hall was closed so that it was necessary to switch to the ice sports center . The venue in Munich was chosen to increase interest in handball in the region. In 2013 the ÖVB-Arena in Bremen was the venue for the Supercup. From 2014 to 2017 the venue was the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart . From 2018 to 2020 the Pixum Super Cup will be held in the much larger ISS Dome in Düsseldorf .
If both titles (champions and cup winners) went to the same club, the DHB Cup finalist was eligible to play until 2008. The only exception was 1997, when SG Flensburg-Handewitt was runner-up in the Supercup because the cup finalist HSG Dutenhofen / Münchholzhausen was still playing in the second division. From 2009 this regulation was changed so that the master competes regularly against the runner-up.
The record winner among men is THW Kiel , which won the trophy nine times in 19 finals. As the only team to date, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen won the Cup three times in a row, from 2016 to 2018.
Pixum has been the namesake of the competition since 2015 .
