The DKW F4 master class is a small car with front-wheel drive of the brand DKW , which the Auto Union in 1934 as the successor of the model F2 master class 701 brought to market. The difference to the F2 model was the somewhat rounder and more elegant body with " suicide doors " hinged on the back . Like all DKW “Frontwagen” (protected name), the F4 was built at the Audi factory in Zwickau .
The technique was unchanged: the already used in the F2 and forward transversely mounted two-cylinder - two-stroke engine ( parallel twin ) with 0.7 liters capacity and Schnürle - reverse circulation with two transfer channels 20 provides hp at 3500 min -1 . It drives the front wheels via a three-speed gearbox with a stick gear lever. The cars with a subframe made of two steel U-profile longitudinal members as a chassis and synthetic leather- covered plywood body have independent suspension on transverse leaf springs at the front and rear and were available as two- and four-seater convertibles or convertible sedans.
After around 7,000 vehicles had been built, the successor DKW F5 with a sturdy central box frame and rear " floating axle " was presented in February 1935 .
