action

Conrad was always driven and rarely treated lovingly by his father, Carl, a union boss, so he kept visits to his parents to a minimum. Now this year for his mother Helene's birthday, Conrad finds out that she has separated from his father, and she asks Conrad to bring an envelope to his father's house. Once there, Conrad has to find that his father has lost his footing and obviously lets himself go, because beer cans and other rubbish are piled up here. And although Conrad actually wants to go on vacation with his wife Tamara and son Jonas, he first helps his father because he fell into the pool that was built for Conrad and is now empty and injured himself. During this time, Jonas meets his neighbor Kim, who is his age. She blames him for not keeping his promise because he hasn't visited his grandparents in the summer for five years to meet them too.

When Conrad and Jonas want to fly from the airport on vacation, their car is towed and Carl has to drive them. At check-in at the airport, the three suddenly see Helene picking up another man and welcoming him very lovingly. Under these circumstances, Conrad cannot manage to leave his emotionally troubled father alone. To Jonas' annoyance, he postpones the vacation flight and stays with his father for a while. He also visits his mother in her new apartment and meets Arno, the new man at her side. Conrad now learns that his mother is terminally ill and will only live about half a year. Helene doesn't want to spend these few months with the self-fixated Carl, so she looked for a new acquaintance on the Internet and found Arno.

Conrad then also procures a computer for his father so that he also has the opportunity to meet a new woman. In the evening, Conrad remembers the envelope for his father, which he has not yet found, and opens it. Inside is a tape from his mother's cine film that he watches. It contains recordings of the young, loving Carl who helps his son and how he proposes to his wife. Touched by these forgotten pictures, Conrad wants to help his father, because he is sure that his parents are still in love and have only "lost" each other a little. He contacted Carls Helene via the Internet and with a pseudonymized name. She takes a liking to the "new" acquaintance and they meet in a restaurant. But that escalates and ultimately leads to a dispute between Helene and Carl. Conrad is disappointed and now reveals to Carl the real reason for the separation: the illness.

In the meantime, Tamara’s nerves are on edge after Conrad informs her that he and Jonas will not be coming on vacation. Meanwhile, Jonas swept the empty pool and filled it with water to keep him busy. He wants to impress Kim, but can't scratch what his father is supposed to teach him. When he finally takes the time to do it, Tamara suddenly stands by the pool and sees that Jonas and Conrad are obviously fine with the changed Carl. She leaves disappointed and Conrad has to find out that he thinks like his father, although he always wanted to prevent this. Jonas also experiences a defeat on his first date with Kim.

In order to reconcile with the women, Carl, Conrad and Jonas want to go camping. Helene can convince Carl to come with her by showing her the film and signaling that he has not forgotten the time from back then. Tamara receives a loving email from Conrad and lets herself be convinced to come. But the next day only Kim and Helene appear at the bus station, so that in the end there are only five of them. Jonas simply sends his mother the GPS coordinates so that she can catch up with a taxi.

After everyone has reconciled with each other, one learns from the off that Helene dies on December 25th in the same year and that she has managed the reconciliation between father and son.

Reviews

“The message of the film is simple and therefore all the more valid: something is still possible. Which means it is never too late to start over. You just have to overcome your own limits. "

“In 'There's still something going on!' the male representatives from three generations are almost effortlessly merged into a coherent unit. The characters, who look rather unsympathetic when viewed individually, are simply wonderful in combination and create a truly family atmosphere. Viewers of all ages will find a reference person in this film. "

- Dirk Roos, filmfutter.com

“Admittedly, the surprise-free story is not necessarily the yellow of the egg, because who wants to see a film about the needs of a yuppie today? But the two main actors Florian David Fitz and Henry Hübchen - by the way, they already played together in Fitz's Jesus Loves Me story - have a lot of scenes in which they perfectly characterize the everyday father-son conflict. Above all, Hübchen as the eternally nagging father makes for a lot of laughs. The staging, however, does not go beyond TV level. "
