Dagmar Knöpfel (born November 20, 1956 in Heilbronn ) is a German film director , screenwriter and photographer .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1975, Dagmar Knöpfel studied art history , history , archeology and sociology in Munich . She stayed several times for study purposes and archival work in Italy for long periods , especially in Venice .

After completing her master's degree, she graduated from the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) from 1982 to 1986 . It was there that she made her first documentaries and feature films , in which she mainly concentrated on scriptwriting and directing. Even during her studies at the HFF, she repeatedly worked with the support of Bayerischer Rundfunk , which later commissioned films from her. But when Brigitta did not have the courage to make her first feature film , she founded her own film production facility. This followed in 1993 the own film distribution.

Extraordinary women and their fates dominate Dagmar Knöpfel's films. These are often based on literary foundations. Already with the short film Morgen after the story by Joseph Conrad she shows her particular fondness for this genre. Her first film Brigitta takes up the rhythm and fine drawing of Adalbert Stifter 's novel of the same name. Requiem for a Romantic Woman is based on letters from the young Auguste Bußmann and her husband Clemens Brentano (edited by Hans Magnus Enzensberger ). Played by Sylvester Groth and Janina Sachau , this film about the impossibility of a lived Amour-Fou marriage earned several awards. In Through this night I don't see a single star , Corinna Harfouch embodies the most famous Czech writer Božena Němcová to this day .

In addition to the movies, Dagmar Knöpfel also shot for television ( Tatort , Glück auf Vier Wheels , Gute Zeiten, Bad Zeiten , as well as numerous documentaries). Since 1994, Dagmar Knöpfel has also been active in the academic field, initially as Toni Lüdi's artistic and scientific assistant in the scenography course at the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences. This was followed by teaching positions at the HFF for directing and scriptwriting, at the Ludwigsburg Film Academy and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg . She took part in film festivals in Montreal, Mar del Plata, Hong Kong, Tehran, Taormina, Rio de Janeiro and the Berlinale , among others . Since 2000, Dagmar Knöpfel has worked at various theaters as a director and author.

She has been a member of the German Film Academy since 2005 and has been a member of the award committee of the German Film Funding Agency since 2007 . In 2011 and 2012 she was a member of the jury for the “Starter Film Award” of the city of Munich. In 2012 she was a member of the jury at the Five Lakes Film Festival .

Dagmar Knöpfel has been dealing with photography since she was a student . During numerous study trips, mainly landscape photographs were taken. From her fellowship stay at Villa Aurora in Los Angeles in 2009 , she brought the photo series Structures for the photo exhibition "Transatlantic Impulse" - 15 Years of Villa Aurora 2010 with her.
