Daniel Simon Atherton (born January 25, 1982 near Salisbury , Great Britain ) known as Dan Atherton , is a British mountain bike racer . Dan is particularly successful in the mountain bike disciplines of downhill , four cross and enduro downhill mountain bike racing. At 15 he started riding BMX and a year later mountain biking.

Career

From 2007 to 2011 he rode together with his siblings Gee Atherton and Rachel Atherton for the Animal Commencal International Pro Mountain Bike Race Team, which is equipped with bikes from the French manufacturer Commencal.

From 2012 he, his siblings and one of his old friends, Marc Beaumont, drove for the GT Factory Racing Team. The entire team has been driving for the Trek Factory Racing Team since the end of 2015.

His life as a professional biker and that of his two siblings was also presented in the short documentary "The Atherton Project" and broadcast on freecaster.tv.

Since the 2013 season, Dan has been devoting himself to a new discipline: Enduro , in which several races are run per day. The departures vary from a few minutes to a maximum of 20 minutes. Due to a shoulder injury, Atherton had to give up the Enduro World Series prematurely.
