Gottfried Daniel Berger (born October 25, 1744 in Berlin ; † November 17, 1825 there ) was a German engraver .

Berger initially received artistic instruction from his father Friedrich Gottlieb Berger , who was also a copperplate engraver, and then from 1757 drawing instruction from the French painter and director of the Prussian Academy of Arts Blaise Nicolas Le Sueur . From May 1764, the training was supplemented by the court copper engraver Georg Friedrich Schmidt , whose long-term employee was Berger. In addition, Berger continued to receive professional support from Le Sueur.

Through Le Sueur's mediation, Berger was able to establish contacts with influential personalities, including the painter and director of the Sanssouci picture gallery Matthias Austria , the bank director and art connoisseur Carl Philipp Caesar and the anatomy professor Johann Friedrich Meckel . As a result, Berger received numerous important orders such as the production of illustrations for medical and biological works or reproductions of paintings.

In 1778 Berger became a full member of the Akademie der Künste, in 1787 he was admitted to the rectorate and appointed professor of copperplate engraving . In 1816 Berger became vice director of the academy.
