Daniel Crüger
Daniel Crüger (born December 11, 1639 in Stargard ( Western Pomerania ), † March 15, 1711 ) was a German physician and poet of the Baroque period.
Crüger had studied medicine at the universities of Frankfurt and Jena , in Jena with Johann Theodor Schenck . In 1664 he published an inaugural dissertation with Schenck entitled Dissertatio inauguralis de colica . In 1666 he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Altdorf . After completing his studies, he established himself as a general practitioner in Kolberg . He then practiced in Stargard in Western Pomerania , where he was also the personal physician of the Elector of Brandenburg. He conducted medical research and developed drugs against typhus as well as against syphilis . In 1685 he was accepted as the 133rd member of the Imperial Leopoldine-Carolinian German Academy of Natural Scientists . In addition to his work as a doctor, he worked as a writer and poet. Crüger corresponded with scientists of his time, including in 1699 with the astronomer and calendar maker Gottfried Kirch (1639-1710).
