Daniel Jacob Radcliffe (born July 23, 1989 in Fulham , London , England ) is a British actor . He became known for the personification of Harry Potter in the film adaptations of the novels of the same name by Joanne K. Rowling .

life and career

Daniel Radcliffe was born in 1989 in a hospital in West London, the only child of literary agent Alan George Radcliffe and casting agent Marcia Jeannine Gresham (nee Jacobson). His father is a Protestant and comes from Northern Ireland , his mother is Jewish , her last name Gresham is an Anglicization of Gershon . Daniel Radcliffe himself is an atheist .

Daniel Radcliffe played the young David Copperfield in 1999 at the age of ten in the British television production David Copperfield , a film adaptation of the novel by Charles Dickens . He made his cinema debut in 2001 as the screen son of Jamie Lee Curtis and Geoffrey Rush in John Boorman's John le Carré film adaptation of The Tailor of Panama .

In 2001, Radcliffe quickly became world famous due to the great success of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone , as did his two actors Emma Watson and Rupert Grint , who play Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley . In February 2002, the Variety Club of Great Britain named him "Best Young Actor". In the same month he got the "Sir James Carreras" as "outstanding new talent". In April 2002 he was awarded the Italian David di Donatello film prize for his extraordinary portrayal of Harry Potter and his contribution to the future of cinema. In the years 2001 to 2005 and 2007 Radcliffe was awarded a Bravo Otto by the German youth newspaper Bravo in the category of male film star or cinema star (from 2004): 2001 and 2002 in silver, 2003 in bronze, 2004 in silver and 2005 and 2007 in Gold. In July 2007, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint immortalized themselves with prints of their hands, feet and wands in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles .

On November 12, 2015, Radcliffe received the 2,565th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Film category .
