Daniela Münkel

Daniela Münkel (born April 1, 1962 in Hanover ) is a German historian and project manager for the Federal Commissioner for Stasi Records .

Career

Daniela Münkel studied Middle and Modern History, Political Science as well as Economic and Social History at the University of Göttingen and completed her studies with Helga Grebing with a thesis on farmers and National Socialism using the example of the district of Celle . She then did her doctorate at the University of Hanover under Adelheid von Saldern ; The topic of her dissertation was the Stade district farming community as a "switching point" between National Socialist agricultural policy and peasant interests. From 1994 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2004 Münkel worked as a research assistant at the University of Hanover. From 1997 to 2000 she edited the fourth volume of the edition "Willy Brandt - Berlin Edition" on behalf of the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation . In 2005 Daniela Münkel completed her habilitation at the University of Hanover with a study on the SPD politician Willy Brandt and the media. In the same year she worked as a research assistant at the German Bundestag ; afterwards she represented the chair for cultural and media history at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken and was a visiting professor at Heidelberg University . Daniela Münkel has been working in the research department of the Federal Commissioner for Stasi Records since 2008. There she heads the editing and research project " The GDR in view of the Stasi - The secret reports to the SED leadership ". In addition, she works with Roger Engelmann on the research project “Rulership and Society in the GDR Province”. In 2010 Münkel was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Hanover. She was a member of the historical commission of the SPD .

Scientific work

Daniela Münkel has published numerous monographs, edited volumes and essays on topics from contemporary German and international history. Her research interests include the political, media and social history of the 20th century, the history of the GDR, in particular the Ministry of State Security , and the history of German social democracy. In addition, Münkel worked intensively on the field of agricultural history, with a focus on the Nazi era and the GDR . Until 2012 Münkel was the deputy chairwoman of the “ Working Group for Agricultural History ”.
