Danilo Rea (* 1957 in Vicenza ) is an Italian pianist of jazz and pop music.

Rea lived in Rome since childhood , where he also studied piano at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory. He made his debut as a jazz pianist in 1975 in Roberto Gatto's “Trio di Roma” . He also played in other groups of Gatto, for example in the successful band "Lingomania" in the 1980s and was on the latter's albums "Notes" from 1986 and (as a duo) "Improvvisi" from 1989. In 2007 he also played in the trio Gatto on. In the same year 1989 he took part in the performance of “Requiem per Pier Paolo Pasolini ” by Roberto De Simone in the theater of San Carlo in Naples . As a jazz musician, he also played with musicians such as Chet Baker , Lee Konitz , Phil Woods , Kenny Wheeler , John Scofield and Joe Lovano . In the 1990s he played in the group "Doctor 3", whose album "The Tales of Doctor 3" was awarded as the best Italian jazz album in 1998, and the band's follow-up album "The songs remain the same" in 1999 received an award.

Danilo Rea not only plays jazz, but is also active in pop music and has accompanied singers such as Mina , Claudio Baglioni and Pino Daniele .

In 2007 he took part (with Furio Di Castri and Gianluca Petrella, among others ) in the performance of “Uomini in frac” by the pop-jazz group “Avion Travel”. On his solo CD “Lirico” (Egea Records 2007) he interprets opera melodies by Giacomo Puccini, for example . In 2001 the album Opera ( ACT , 2011) was created in a duo with Flavio Boltro .

In 2004 he received the Django d'Or (Italy) as "Established Musician".
