Danina Isabel Coelho da Silva is a medical doctor in East Timor and an expert on infectious diseases .

Career

Coelho graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Porto and worked for the Infectious Diseases Service of the Hospital de S. João in Porto . Later she joined the Stanford International Clinic of Stanford University as a specialist in infectious diseases.

In East Timor, under Minister Sérgio Lobo , she was Infectious Diseases Adviser for the Ministry of Health and the development of the Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares (HNGV), the largest hospital in the country. Here she built the hepatitis clinic of the hospital in 2014 . As an advisor to the President of the Região Administrativa Especial de Oe-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA), she founded a cardiology center in collaboration with the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra .

On March 23, 2020, in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic in East Timor , Coelho was appointed to the commission established by the government to advise and evaluate strategies for the prevention and control of the coronavirus pandemic ( tetum Komisaun Akompañamentu no Avaliasaun Estratéjia ba Prevensaun no Kombate Pandemia Koronavírus ) after the first corona case occurred in East Timor. In this capacity, she was invited as a guest by the National Security Council to decide on the declaration of a national emergency .

Coelho is a member of the Australasian Association for Infectious Diseases (ASID), President of the Associação dos Medicos de Timor-Leste in the RAEOA and Vice-Secretary General of the Organização Popular de Mulheres Timorense (OPMT), the women's organization of FRETILIN .
