history

Danko Jones have been touring since 1996. They achieved their first public success with their single Bounce from the EP My Love Is Bold , with which they were nominated in 2000 for a Juno Award. In 2001 the band signed with Bad Taste Records from Sweden, the compilation I'm Alive and on Fire with older recordings and demos was released. This was followed by a five-week European tour in the support program of the Backyard Babies . In 2002 their first full studio album was released.

In 2004 Danko Jones were nominated again for the Juno Award , followed by an extensive tour through Australia and to major festivals such as Rock am Ring and Rock im Park . The album Sleep Is the Enemy followed . After the first tour through Canada in four years in spring 2006 and repeated appearances at major festivals, Danko Jones returned to the studio. The single Code of the Road was released on their MySpace page in December 2007, along with the announcement of the new album Never Too Loud , which was released on February 28, 2008 in Europe. In 2009, B-sides and contributions to compilations, such as the Ramones cover version The Return of Jacky and Judy , were released on the album B-Sides . In 2010 a new studio album called Below the Belt came on the market, on the cover of which Danko poses with a lion and the porn actress Riley Steele . After an EP called Mouth to Mouth , which is only available as an online download, the new album Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue followed in 2012 , on which the new drummer Atom Willard could be heard for the first time. Willard left the band in 2013 and was replaced by Rich Knox. After the usual tour activities of recent years and participation in the motorboat cruise, the new album Fire Music was announced for the beginning of 2015 and the teaser song Gonna Be a Fight Tonight was put online. The album Fire Music was released on February 6, 2015. Following the tour of the album, the live album Live at Wacken will be released on February 29, 2016 as CD + DVD, CD + Blu-ray and 2 LP. The DVD or Blu-ray contains Danko Jones Spoken Word Performance from the Wacken Festival 2012 as a bonus.

Bassist John Calabrese on November 16, 2006 in Milan

Danko Jones has been writing an ironic-pathetic column about rock music and the lifestyle that goes with it in the German metal magazine Rock Hard since 2005 . The band has been established in the rock scene for several years. In 2012, the English book Too Much Trouble: A Very Oral History of Danko Jones by Stuart Berman was published, which illuminates the history of the band through quotes from current and former band members, friends and companions as well as many illustrations. Furthermore, the front man Danko Jones has been active as a radio host since 2003. At Rocket FM in Stockholm he moderates a rock show at irregular intervals, in which he lives out his passion as a music fan.

style

Danko Jones' music is similar to the music of bands like KISS , AC / DC or Thin Lizzy . They are stylistically to be settled in hard rock , blues and punk . Characteristic of their music are the choppy guitar power chord and singleton riffs in the style of AC / DC and the heavily distorted bass playing, which is similar to that of Lemmy Kilmister .

Live performances

Danko Jones' live performances are above all powerful and energetic and characterized by the self-deprecating and vulgar nature of the frontman. This includes obscene "turning on" viewers and his wild tongue play. The ironic and satirical character of Jones' stage alter ego is always recognizable. The band is also known for their spoken word performances , in which Jones tells something while Rich Knox and John Calabrese play a simple basic rhythm.
