Dappy

Dappy (born June 11, 1987 in London ; actually Costadinos "Dino" Contostavlos ) is a British grime musician who became known in the 2000s as a member of the N-Dubz .

biography

Dappy is the son of Byron Contostavlos, who was among other things bassist for Mungo Jerry . He grew up in Camden Town in north London, was expelled from school several times and eventually left without a degree at the age of 15. Later, at the insistence of his father, he continued his education at college while he started a music career with a cousin and a school friend as N-Dubz .

The trio was very successful from 2007 to 2011, but Dappy made negative headlines during this time and was sentenced to a four-month suspended sentence for assault.

When the N-Dubz took a break, Dappy pursued a solo career and recorded his first single without a band together with Tinchy Stryder , with whom he had already had a number one hit with the N-Dubz with the single Number 1 in 2009 . The song Spaceship reached number 5 in the UK in June 2011. His first real solo single, No Regrets, followed in October of the same year . It became his first own number one hit . With the Queen guitarist Brian May , he reached number 2 with the title Rockstar the following year.

In 2014 he produced a vocal version of Martin Garrix 's club hit Animals . The remix was released as a single in spring 2014.
