Darrell Pascal Ware (born July 29, 1906 in Plainview , Minnesota , † May 26, 1944 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter .

Life

After graduating from high school, Darrell Ware attended Northwestern University , where he wrote four musical reviews, one of which he was able to sell to Universal Pictures . In 1936 he went to Hollywood , where he wrote his first screenplay for Columbia Pictures . In 1937 he was signed by 20th Century Fox . In 1942 he and his colleague Karl Tunberg received an Oscar nomination in the category Best Original Screenplay for the comedy film Tall, Dark and Handsome . Both were subject to Herman J. Mankiewicz and Orson Welles , who were able to prevail in this category with Citizen Kane . From 1942 Darrell Ware was employed by Paramount Pictures .

He was married to Virginia Hickman until his untimely death. He died of a heart attack in Los Angeles in 1944 at the age of only 37 . The last two films he was involved in as a screenwriter, Bring on the Girls (1945) and A Lady with a Past ( Kitty , 1945), were released posthumously. His grave is in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale .
