The Old Testament German
The Old Testament German (ATD) is a series of scientific commentaries on books of the Old Testament published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, Göttingen, from 1949 onwards. The series was designed so that the volumes should also be understandable for non-theologians; Philological and archaeological questions were therefore only briefly dealt with. Otto Kaiser named students, pastors and catechists as the target group.
There are the supplementary series “ATD Apocrypha” and “Outlines of the Old Testament.” The commentary series is gradually being replaced by revisions.
ATD
The series was initially edited by Volkmar Herntrich and Artur Weiser . Herntrich had taken over the commentary on Isaiah himself, the first part of the volume was published in 1957. After Herntrich's death († 1959) this commentary was not continued, Otto Kaiser submitted a new version instead. From 1970 to 1999 the comment series was published by Otto Kaiser and Lothar Perlitt .
