The last bank (novel)

On the Beach (Original title: On the Beach ) is a science fiction - novel of the English author Nevil Shute .

In the novel, first published in 1957, Shute describes how a world war waged with nuclear weapons destroys all of humanity. Only the residents of Australia and the crew of an American submarine escape the disaster. But the end will soon be threatening them too, because radioactively contaminated clouds are slowly drifting south and thus directly towards Australia.

Film adaptations

The novel was filmed in 1959 by Stanley Kramer under its original title . In 2000, the USS Charleston - The Last Hope of Mankind followed, a remake produced for television.
